In October 2016 I finally took the time to digitize the cassettes I've been recording between 1996 and 2001. 470 songs in total, on 48 tapes, using artist names like Euphoria Sinistrum (say what?), DJ Rudi (huh?) and Aut O Matic.
Back then, I was heavily influenced by gothic-rock (Sisters of Mercy, Paradise Lost, The Mission), but soon electronic music took over, starting with trip-hop and big beat (DJ Shadow, Howie B, Wagon Christ) to drum 'n bass (Photek, Ed Rush & Optical) and on to discovering more adventurous electronica (Aphex Twin, The Black Dog, Orbital).
These tracks were made with a tracker program called FastTracker 2, which uses 'several channels at discrete chronological positions on a vertical timeline' (Wikipedia). It's actually a really simple and fun way to make music.
A lot of the songs I made in this period are straight rip-offs (though they sound worse) of the music I was listening to. Although the sound quality isn't great, I believe the small selection I compiled on this album is entertaining enough to be heard. Enjoy!
The download includes a PDF with all the sleeves of the tapes.
