Machinefabriek makes a long and welcome return to Champion Version after 5 years with Ver(pulver). The A side contains 'Verpulver' a slow-burning, meditative piece that builds a sense of unease through its subtle layers of sound. The composition is sparse, focusing on the gradual accumulation of low-frequency drones and faint, crackling textures. These elements seem to disintegrate as they evolve, mirroring the process of decay or the disintegration of matter. As the track progresses, there are moments where sounds almost seem to fall apart or collapse, creating a feeling of dissolution. In contrast, the second track, 'Pulver', offers a more direct, intense approach to the theme of destruction. This track is more abrasive and active in its sonic palette. It begins with a throbbing, rhythmic pulse that quickly evolves into a rich, textured composition. The sharp, percussive elements in 'Pulver' simulate the harsh impact of something being shattered or ground down. Industrial-like drones and distorted frequencies clash against one another, creating a dense, chaotic atmosphere that feels urgent and unsettling. The track might feel like a sonic representation of physical destruction, with layers of sound building and disintegrating in rapid succession. The two tracks here exemplify Machinefabriek's talent for using sound to evoke abstract, existential themes.
