Alphabets of Flesh shares its name with the dance performance these tracks were created for. Though Roshanak Morrowatian’s choreography was obviously the main inspiration for the music, the four pieces presented here work remarkly well outside of their original context.

Voices are a key ingredient on Alphabets of Flesh. Sampled from Zuydervelt’s previous ‘Stay Tuned’ project, the vocals (from Molly Berg, Jenny Hval, and Lisa Nordström) are used as an instrument, pitched and processed, and sit nicely with the dusty synths, layered textures, and distorted rhythms you’ll find on these pieces.

The EP ends with Not Good Enough, a track that adds a powerful driving rhythm to the warmth and melancholy that characterize this engrossing release.
