t.b.a.

Since I can remember, I’ve been creating beats in my mind–mostly breakbeat- and drum & bass-inspired rhythmic patterns. I still do it.
There’s something really satisfying about constructing beats, like bringing order to chaos.

It’s also what I did as a teenager, spending hours on the computer in my parents’ attic, working with a rudimentary music program. In the years that followed, influenced by the music I was listening to, my own music became increasingly abstract, and the rhythmic aspect gradually dissolved. My tracks–mostly released under my Machinefabriek alias–became more about texture and atmosphere.

Fast forward... I’ve been composing commissioned music, mainly for film and dance, for quite some time now, and there are moments when a rhythm is needed. So my youthful fascination gradually seeped back into my work. The beats came back.

Most of the music in that vein is still made for commissions, but over the past few years I’ve also been releasing the EPs collected here. Making these tracks transported me back to my parents’ attic–to more carefree times. This music is all about the joy of creation.
