Four channel installation
'De Grote Pauze' (The Big Break) uses sound recordings from breaks at primary schools throughout Rotterdam. The sounds of playing, screaming and laughing kids runs continuously on a quadrophonic setup, with each of the 19 recordings coming from the direction of where the school is, geographically. Their names are on the walls, as well as gathered (positive and critical) quotes from people that live nearby schools.
Every two minutes a bell is heard, followed by the sound of kids of one of the schools, running into the school yard, as a wave within the sea of children's noises.
'De Grote Pauze' is part of the exhibition 'Labyrint', that runs until mid 2015 at children's museum Villa Zebra, Rotterdam.
