Lichtung

Exhibition and audio-visual collaboration with Steve Roden and Sabine Bürger

The 'Lichtung' exhibition was a three-way project centered around an audio-visual installation. The American visual and sound artist Steve Roden and the Dutch sound artist and musician Rutger Zuydervelt provided the audio whilst the German visual artist Sabine Bürger provided the video element. Additionally each of the artists exhibited examples of their own work on paper addressing the interface between the audio and the visual.

The exhibition was part of a series of exhibitions organized by Galerie Vayhinger revolving around the German concept of 'heimat', the area in which someone was born or had their early formative experiences. Considering the artists far-flung locations it was decided that the gallery's locale would provide the artists with a "temporary heimat". The Mindelsee lake located just a few hundred yards away from the gallery became the natural focus of the installation. Video footage and field recordings made there became the foundation to which other elements from the artists individual surroundings could be added.

The exhibition had the form of a four channel audio-visual presentation set in an installation sourcing natural forms from the surrounding area. Additionally each artist will showed examples of their own work on paper.
